An example of a banner's asset
help:banners
Table of Contents
A banner could be broken down into a variety of moving parts:
- The Asset
- The Backdrop
- The Link
- The Hovertext
- The Holder
- The Priority
All are important for an accurate advertising banner that aims to connect user colonies and present the best we have to offer on our own site.
Basic Descriptions
The Asset:
The Asset is the image or GIF anyone can upload to this site. While there are many permutations of this portion available, the system only responds to "media asset," which means you're not forced to post The Asset if you wish to commission a banner.
The Backdrop:
The Backdrop is the area surrounding the image of a banner that usually displays some form of pattern or art. It can be specified to all manners of simplicity and complexity given the situation and design that would best pair with the image. It is typical for users to generate their designs using an assisting website or software to save time./1/
The Link:
The Link is what it says on the tin, a link to any part of this site or elsewhere. Links are analyzed and tested for safety regularly to guarantee the user base's smooth journey to the destination.
There are two symbols in our systems currently that determine where a banner's link leads:
These are known as Homebound Links and Outbound Links respectively.
The Hovertext:
The Hovertext is just as simple as the link; you hover over the banner, and it displays a message to indicate where the link leads to. You're able to put anything in here as long as it makes users aware that the site it leads to is the site advertised.
The Holder:
When creating a new banner, an admin has to choose who to add as the banner holder. This is to make sure we know who to contact for any future information or change to the banner.
The Priority:
Priority affects how the randomizer pulls information. There are three current rankings:
- Low Priority or Free Priority
- A generic type of banner that is created and tossed into a pool that rolls less often than the next ranking.
- High Priority or Paid Priority
- A special type of banner that is created and rolls more often than a low priority banner. Often monetized.
- Retired Banner
- A type of banner that is never pulled from the selection and will never display under any circumstance. Can be used to quickly discontinue certain banners in certain cases.
