Being a furry is inherently zoophilic. The "fandom" is based off obsessing over animals with human body aspects and LARPing as said concept. The concept is so broad that there's no way a normal person would get into it. Stuff like warrior cats and toontown online might serve as gateway drug media, but most people would just enjoy the media itself instead of getting interested in the idea of "anthropomorphic animals". You can't get sane animal lovers into becoming furries either because the "fandom" has nothing to do with animology, it would be much more like the dinosaur & paleontology fandom. Without "scalies", the fandom for dragons would entirely be just people making stories about dragons and making httyd fanart.
With the lack of interesting concepts, there's no good reason to be a furry outside of gooning. The one argument I've seen from some is that it's a "friendly community" but this can be translated into "lonely teenagers are groomed by furries into joining their fetish". Either way it leads back to the furfags being sexual. Once you realize the entire thing is a fetish, it being zoophilic is simple logic. These people jerk off to animals in the bodies of sexy humans, but how does the animal stuff make it hotter?
